The NHSPS Green Plan

Our plan to support the NHS in cutting emissions and becoming net zero by 2040

Climate change has been widely recognised as one of the greatest threats to public health globally and nationally. As owners of 10% of the NHS estate, we play a key role in reducing emissions, helping the NHS adapt to climate change and building healthier communities.

This Green Plan is our commitment to reducing our environmental impact and promoting sustainable healthcare, enabling the NHS to deliver excellent patient care now and in the future.

While we are proud of our achievements so far there is still so much more needed to be undertaken together and as individuals. We will work with colleagues, customers, local communities and partners to lay the foundations for a greener, healthier and more equitable future.

How you can get involved

We look forward to working with you to deliver a sustainable NHS estate that is future-proofed for generations of patients. It is only by working together and making informed decisions every day, both at home and at work, that we can drive real change.

Here's how you can get involved:

  • Speak to your local NHSPS facilities manager: There are a range of ideas to make a difference at your site which your facilities manager can help with. Some are very simple and personal like car sharing and using a reusable water bottle, and others are bigger items we can support with as your estates and facilities partner.
  • Share your Green Plan with us: We would love to see where the opportunities lie for us to work together and understand your plan of action so we can best support you.
