NHS Property Services highlights one of its 110 wellbeing hubs across the country on Social Prescribing Day (19th March).

Erdington Wellbeing Hub, managed by Witton Lodge Community Association in the West Midlands, saw a 30 per cent increase in demand for its services in 2023/4 and welcomed more than 4,000 visitors - this number contrasts sharply with a decline in footfall to its high street.

Social prescribing involves connecting people with mental or physical challenges to community services like support groups, employment groups and adult learning.

NHS Property Services transform vacant indoor and outdoor spaces in health centres, GP practices and hospitals across England into community hubs.

Erdington Wellbeing Hub offers:

  • Occupational Therapy
  • Benefits & Welfare Advice
  • Adult Social Care support
  • Employment & Skills support
  • Arts & Craft sessions
  • Healthy Lifestyle Workshops
  • Housing Support
  • Energy efficiency/winter fuel advice
  • Social Prescribers running 1-to-1 counselling type services and linking in with social workers and occupational therapists.

“The Erdington Wellbeing Hub has been incredibly valuable in supporting MMP by ensuring patients receive the right care from the most appropriate healthcare professional.

“This has helped reduce pressure on our GPs by providing an alternative source of support, streamlining patient pathways, and ensuring their needs are met efficiently. As a result, it has freed up appointments for those who need them most. The hub has been a vital resource for both MMP, making a real difference in people’s wellbeing.”

“Erdington Wellbeing Hub is a shining example of how community-focused initiatives can transform lives.  With a 30% increase in demand, it’s clear that this hub is not just a space but a lifeline for thousands, offering vital support, skills, and opportunities. It’s heartening to see such positive impact right here in the heart of Erdington.”
