Challenge
Radford Health Centre required significant investment to put right compliance issues, ranging from new clinical basins, upgrading of lighting fire doors and replacing flooring. A main factor was to replace the passenger lift which had been failing for a few a few years.
Solution
Our role was to oversee the management of our supply chain to deliver the works. This included obtaining funding and managing all aspects of the design from inception to completion using our design team. We appointed GRT Nottingham Liftco to act as our project manager and full design team using their experience supply to design and tender the scheme.
The business case got approved in February 2020, just before the first COVID19 lockdown so we had to revisit the programme and work with the tenants and contractor to ensure safe working methods.
Works began in August 2020 and were carried out over several phases where the occupiers released parts of the building for the contractor to work in while also avoiding any disruption to clinical services.
Works cost £780,000 - fully funded by NHSPS backlog maintenance budget - and were completed in March 2021.
Result
Patients and staff can benefit from a more modern and pleasant environment, and one where they can rely on the building’s performance.
The building was upgraded with a focus on clinical rooms, reception and new passenger lift. New sanitary compliant sinks where install, new floor coverings with carpet being removed and replace with vinyl took place. Lighting was upgraded to LED, electrical boards where updated and a new building management system was installed.
Lighting levels are now compliant, brighter and more energy efficient, and the new Building Management System in the plantroom enables better control. The new lift has made a big improvement to accessing the other floors. The building now will have a higher rating on infection prevention with surfaces replaced and can now be cleaned better than before. The improved building facilities and features mean there will be less need for reactive maintenance in the future.
